The Impact of Chronic Disease in America

Chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer are some of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States. This has been true since the early 1900s when there was an epidemiologic transition from infectious disease to noncommunicable diseases. This transition was partly due to improved nutrition, sanitation, and other public health successes and medical technology and innovation.
